FastStone Image Viewer is a program with a somewhat misleading name. FastStone Image Viewer does much more than simple image viewing. It is a versatile, all-in-one tool for complex image processing which allows viewing, management, comparison, red eye removal from photos, retouching, resizing, cropping, and performing other adjustments.

FastStone Image Viewer is chock full with virtually anything a design or photography professional may require. And every feature included really does its job! For instance, the typical resize function offers eleven re-sampling algorithms, while the comparison function puts up to four images side by side instead of just two as most tools do. And everything in FastStone Image Viewer is done in the same professional and straightforward manner.

The program’s fullscreen mode is truly fullscreen - no toolbars, title bars, or anything is displayed except the image. At the same time, moving the mouse cursor to the screen edges brings up all the necessary information and tools. And this is probably the focal point of Image Viewer’s interface: Whatever you need is right there.

While the program may not replace a fully-functional graphical editor like Adobe Photoshop, it nevertheless offers a wide range of powerful instruments. The Clone Stamp and the Healing Brush, for example, work exactly as their counterparts in specialized software. The program easily reads more than 20 graphical formats including JPEG, PNG, PSD, BMP, and GIF and also supports most of digital camera RAW formats including CR2, CRW, NEF, SRF, MRW, and others, so opening a file will never be a problem. A nifty tool for professionals, the application is excellent for family usage too with its built-in slideshow creator and ability to make artistic photo collages.
